Happy Spring Everyone!
It’s so good to see the green grass back again, isn’t it? Finally, some color back in our part of the world - even if it’s covered in rain. You know what they say, “April Showers bring May Flowers” and that is actually the theme of our First Friday of the Month Demonstration Day - Flowers! We have a lot of fun flower quilt themed ideas for you to see this Friday, May 3rd at 10:30 am. We are continuing with the theme of flowers for the whole month of May in the shop with a flower-themed Accuquilt Go! Play Day! on May 16 from 10:30 to 4:30. This is a free event for anyone with an Accuquilt Cutting System. Just sign up online or in the shop to let us know you are coming and we will let you know what you need to bring. There are a few flower classes on the calendar with an addition of a new Collage Quilt class to keep with the theme for the month. Linda will have 4 bag classes on the calendar including the new “Retreat Bag”. Everyone needs one of these great storage bags. Darla’s cute little “Sew Handy Pocket” for your machine that holds your most used notions at your fingertips is back on the calendar along with two new classes she will be teaching the “Taffy” Quilt, a great quick quilt to put together and the “Stitch Happens” Quilt that is SEW perfect to hang in your sewing room! The shop is aflutter these days just like the birds of spring gathering their building materials and working to create something of comfort and warmth for their families. We hope you stop in to see what’s new in the shop and take home some spring inspiration and a little stash to build your own comfy quilted nest. Happy Spring Everyone!
May all your Stitches be Sweet,
Joan

A Machine Minute
General Maintenance and proper technique are critical for optimum performance of your sewing machine and project outcome.
It MAY just be the Needle
At Sweet Stitches, with an in-house repair shop, we work on a lot of sewing machines of all makes, models, sizes, and age. When a machine is dropped off it is not uncommon to hear that the "Timing is Off" evidenced by skipped stitches or a nest of thread under the fabric. While the root cause of the issue can vary widely, it is interesting just how often that a contributing factor is the needle. Be it bent, blunt, improperly sized for the thread or not fully inserted into the holder, many times simply changing to a new needle improves the circumstance. If you experience issues with your machine, rethread, check or change your bobbin and most certainly, try a new needle, it may just save a trip!
