Collage Quilting

Want to add a more artistic style to your Quilting? How about Collage Quilting? Paint a picture with fabric then quilt it up into a wall hanging or pillow cover. We will be using Emily Taylor's, the Collage Quilter as she is known, method of collage quilting. You will need to have her book which can be purchased here at the shop called, "Collage Quilter -Essentials for Success with Collage Quilts" which is full of good information on color, value and Emily's method of adhering your fabrics to your background canvas. You may choose to use one of the free patterns in the book or you can purchase one of her patterns printed on a fabric background. We have a number of patterns to choose from or you can even draw out your own pattern if you like.  No sewing machine required for this class but quilting/finishing ideas will be discussed in class.

Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: All Levels welcome
Materials Included: Bins of scrap fabrics will be available in the classroom to add to your project along with your own fabrics stash during the class.
Requirements: The book Collage Quilter is a must for the class. Pre-printed fabric patterns by the author are available here at the shop to purchase or you may take the book to your local copy shop and have them blow up one of three patterns in the book. You also have the option of drawing your own outline drawing to fill in with fabric. Really good scissors for cutting little pieces of fabric like the Blue Handle Perfect Scissors by Karen Kay Buckley are very helpful for this class, straight pins, water soluble glue sticks, Soft Fuse or Heat n Bond Paper Backed Fusible Web and lots of fabric scraps to create with and backing fabric/s. A large poster size foam board is really helpful to pin fabric pieces in place before gluing or fusing them in place and can be purchased at the drug store, dollar tree, Hobby Lobby or Michael's craft store. This will also make taking your unfinished project home with you easier. All sewing products, books and patterns available at Sweet Stitches.
